Saltine Toffee Recipe

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, and lightly grease it with cooking spray.

2. Arrange the Saltines

  • Lay the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.

3. Make the Toffee

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Once boiling, continue to cook and stir for 3-4 minutes until the mixture thickens and turns a golden brown, caramel-like color.

4. Pour the Toffee

  • Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the saltine crackers. Use a spatula to spread it out and cover all the crackers.

5. Bake

  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-6 minutes, or until the toffee mixture is bubbling.

6. Add the Chocolate

  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let the chocolate sit for a minute or two to soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.

7. Optional Toppings

  • While the chocolate is still melted, sprinkle chopped nuts, sea salt, or sprinkles over the top if desired.

8. Chill

  • Let the toffee cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for at least 1-2 hours, or until the toffee and chocolate are fully set.

9. Break and Serve

  • Once fully set, break the saltine toffee into bite-sized pieces and serve
