Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli Recipe

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Steak and Veggies:
    • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions (and bell peppers, if using) and sauté for 4-5 minutes until the onions begin to soften and caramelize.
    • Add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently until the steak is browned and cooked through. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to coat. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a rectangle shape about 12×10 inches (or the size of your baking sheet). If you’re using store-bought dough, it should be the right size.
  3. Assemble the Stromboli:
    • Spread the cooked steak and vegetable mixture evenly down the center of the dough, leaving about 2 inches on each side.
    • Sprinkle the shredded provolone cheese (and optional cheddar) over the steak mixture.
  4. Roll and Seal:
    • Carefully fold in the edges of the dough to overlap the filling, then roll it up tightly from one end to the other, pinching the seams to seal.
    • Place the stromboli seam-side down on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  5. Brush with Egg Wash:
    • Brush the top of the stromboli with the beaten egg to give it a golden, shiny finish after baking.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese inside has melted. You may want to check the stromboli around 18 minutes and rotate it for even baking.
  7. Finish and Serve:
    • Once done, remove the stromboli from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
    • Brush the top with a little melted butter for an extra shiny and flavorful finish.
    • Serve with marinara sauce or cheese dipping sauce on the side for an extra indulgent touch.
