Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually stir in boiling water until well combined (batter will be thin).
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, layer the cakes with sliced strawberries and whipped cream in between and on top.
