Ingredients:
🔸 1 lb ground beef
🔸 2 large onions, thinly sliced
🔸 2 tablespoons butter
🔸 1 teaspoon sugar
🔸 1/2 cup beef broth
🔸 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
🔸 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
🔸 Salt and pepper to taste
🔸 4 slices Gruyère or Swiss cheese
🔸 4 hamburger buns
🔸 1 clove garlic, minced (optional for garlic butter buns)
🔸 Additional butter for buns
Directions:
1️⃣ Caramelize the Onions: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and sugar, cooking until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes. Use a splash of beef broth to deglaze the pan as needed.
2️⃣ Prepare Burger Patties: Mix ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 4 patties.
3️⃣ Cook Burger Patties: In another skillet or on a grill, cook patties to your preferred doneness.
4️⃣ Assemble Burgers: Spread buns with garlic butter (optional) and toast until golden. Place a patty on each bun bottom, top with caramelized onions and a slice of cheese.
5️⃣ Broil Burgers: Broil assembled burgers until the cheese melts and becomes bubbly.
6️⃣ Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with fresh thyme, cover with bun tops, and serve hot.
