Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water

For the filling:

  • Your choice of jam, fruit preserves, or Nutella

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring (optional)

Preparation:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Shape it into a disk and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  7. Cut the dough into rectangles, approximately 3×4 inches in size. You can use a knife or a pastry cutter for this.
  8. Place a spoonful of your chosen filling in the center of half of the dough rectangles, leaving a small border around the edges.
  9. Brush the edges of the dough with water and place another rectangle of dough on top of each filled rectangle. Press the edges together to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges.
  10. Place the assembled Pop Tarts onto the prepared baking sheet and prick the tops with a fork to create steam vents.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-18 minutes, or until the Pop Tarts are golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the glaze (optional):

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to achieve your desired color.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled Pop Tarts and let it set before serving.
